The Eternal Embrace

Ananta Āliṅgana explores the eternal union of Shiva and Kali—not as opposing forces, but as two inseparable expressions of existence. Shiva embodies stillness, surrender and consciousness; Kali carries movement, transformation and untamed energy. In their embrace, calm meets chaos, tenderness meets ferocity, and both become part of the same truth.

Rather than portraying Kali through destruction, the artwork looks at her through love. Her presence becomes an embrace that dissolves fear, while Shiva’s quiet surrender suggests a strength that does not need to resist. Together, they evoke the profound idea that creation can emerge only when stillness and energy, compassion and power, are held in balance.

Rendered against a vivid red field, the intertwined figures create an intimate yet commanding composition. The deep blues, ash-white skin, rudraksha beads, garlands and symbolic details draw from the visual language of Indian sacred imagery while retaining the artist’s distinctive contemporary expression.

Created over approximately 80 man-hours, Ananta Āliṅgana is a deeply personal interpretation of divine duality - a meditation on accepting every shade of existence: the serene, the turbulent, the vulnerable and the fierce.
