Original Artwork | Aniket Mitra

Matsya is a deeply evocative mixed-media artwork inspired by the ancient symbolism of the fish. In Indian mythology, Matsya is known as the first avatar of Vishnu’s Dashavatar — a form associated with protection, renewal, life, memory, movement, and cosmic creation.

Floating through a celestial world of gold, red, blue, and shadow, the fish appears almost mythical, as if emerging from the depths of time. The work brings together intricate hand-drawn textures, layered pigments, and luminous detailing, creating a visual language that feels both ancient and contemporary.

The painting took nearly 130 man-hours to complete. The artist has also used his fingers to build textures, depth, and dramatic movement across the surface, giving the work a tactile, intimate, and almost sculptural quality.

Quiet, mysterious, and full of inner energy, Matsya is a striking original artwork for a refined home, gallery wall, or collector’s space.
